What is a Regional STEM Hub?
One aspect of the Inspiring Australia program in Queensland is the Regional STEM Hubs initiative, which aims to facilitate and promote the delivery of STEM activities through collaboration between organisations within each region. Regional STEM Hubs work on growing science engagement in their region and promoting the value of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Members of regional STEM hubs currently active in Queensland include schools, universities, industry, research institutes, non-profit organisations, libraries, councils, government agencies, local businesses and co-working spaces.
What do Regional STEM Hubs do?
Regional STEM Hub activities will vary according to the priorities and commitments of the hub members and can range from updates on current events and projects to resource sharing, input to regional policy or running collaborative events. They are also a useful mechanism to coordinate and cross-promote regional activity in times such as National Science Week. Hubs may also invite members or others to present as guest speakers. There is up to $15,000 per region in 2018 to support Regional STEM Hub activities.
