Teacher Professional Development – Term 4, Week 4

Date: Register for either Tuesday 30 October 2018 OR Wednesday 31 October 2018

Workshops will be repeated on each day to assist schools managing teacher relief.

Teachers from remote schools within the region, needing to travel longer than 90 mins to attend this event can apply for overnight accommodation support.

Please note, filming and photography may occur at this event.

Inclusions: 2 x STEM workshops, Morning Tea + Networking Lunch

Workshop 1: Flight Club

Investigate how the animal kingdom has perfected the art of flying using knowledge, expertise and resources shared by Queensland Museum. In this hands-on workshop, you will get up close and personal with Museum specimens to examine the unique features and adaptations that enable flight. Explore how you can connect these biological understandings with design and technologies concepts in our ‘Flight Club Challenge’ before examining ways in which workshop content can be adapted to further extend student engagement with science.

Workshop 2: Earth Shattering Science

In this workshop you will use evidence collected by scientists at the Queensland Museum to identify how the Earth has changed over time. You will also investigate how the theory of plate tectonics can explain geological changes and become an engineer to solve a real-world problem using design-thinking and mathematics.

Year levels: Suitable for teachers of Year levels 5 through to 9
