As part of our ‘Giving Back to the Community’ program, Flora 4 Fauna – Australia is hosting a free ‘Walk and Talk’ through the plant communities of one of Brisbane’s premier Botanical Gardens on Sunday the 16th of June 2019, starting at 10am and finishing at approx. 11:30am.

The topic of discussion will be about how to effectively recreate a truly biodiverse native Australian garden that will not only help conserve our endangered native flora, provide food, shelter and vital habitat for our struggling local fauna, it will also provide and secure a native food, tool and medicinal source for generations of humans as well!

This is a very practical event and a good opportunity to see how the native plants showcased look, feel and grow for yourself in their respective biological communities.

During this walk and talk, we will see:

  • Which native plants are recommended for a typical (Biodiverse) Brisbane garden;
  • An array of native grasses that can be used to attract and feed native fauna;
  • A selection of native Australian bushfoods, medicinal and utility plants that are endemic to Queensland;
  • A range of native Australian host plants that attract, house and feed large populations of wildlife, including birds, butterflies and native bees; &
  • A very wide range of native Australian flora that is found throughout South-East Queensland’s ancient and highly biodiverse ecosystems.

* Please note that as there is a reasonable amount of walking, complex discussions and time involved in this free walk and talk, it is not suitable for children under the age of 16 years old.

What to bring?

Feel free to bring a packed lunch or picnic to enjoy after the event, in order to make the most of the beautiful surrounds of the site.
