The Questacon Smart Skills Program is touring in the North Queensland region between May 28 and June 8 2018.

In addition to presenting in-school STEM workshops for students we will also be conducting FREE STEM based professional learning workshops for teachers over the coming weeks.
Questacon Smart Skills teacher workshops are FREE, 90-minute workshops for secondary teachers of science, design & technology, mathematics, interested Year 6 teachers and informal educators.
The workshops focus on inquiry learning, innovative thinking and hands-on prototyping. Give us a call if you would like to chat about suitability.

Teacher Workshop 1 looks specifically at earthquakes – we will first construct a small shake table out of simple materials to simulate an earthquake, and then build tower structures which will have their strength and integrity tested atop the shake table. A simple phone app is used to measure the magnitude of our ‘earthquakes’ and investigate a number of open-ended investigations and construction options. This highly collaborative workshop is intentionally open-ended and can be applied across the Australian curriculum including design, earth science, physics, or maths lessons.

It is the first in a series of three workshops; the remainder of the opt-in follow-up sessions are conducted via video link throughout the rest of the calendar year.

Workshops will be held in Ayr, Townsville, Cairns, Herberton, Tully and Ingham between 29 May and 7 June 2018.

Workshops to be held at local schools, see event link for specific locations and booking details. Registrations close soon!

Event Cost: FREE event!
