Dr Emma Kennedy Coral reef ecologist at The University of Queensland

Dr Emma Kennedy is a research scientist specialising in coral reefs, with an interest in climate change impacts on reef communities. She works at the University of Queensland on a global coral reef mapping initiative that brings together biologists with remote sensing specialists, geomorphologists, citizen science organisations, and conservation agencies in an unprecedented collaborative effort to create the first global reef habitat map.

Emma is also a passionate diver and active status scuba instructor. She strongly believes in protecting reefs and oceans by empowering people, and volunteers for citizen science organisation Reef Check Australia, where she sits on the scientific advisory committee. Emma was a participant in the 2019 Homeward Bound program and voyage and was recognised as an emerging leader in the 2018 Australian Science Superheroes campaign.
